State Representative Larry W. Womble was Born June 6, 1941 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Educated in the public school system of Forsyth County and later on earned his B.S. degree from Winston-Salem State in 1963. He furthered his education with degrees from University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Appalachian State University. Representative Womble's public service career began when he was elected to the Winston-Salem Board of Aldermen to represent the Southeast Ward. A position he dutifully served from 1981 through 1993. He has represented the 71st District in the North Carolina General Assembly or five consecutive terms since 1995. He has been adamant to his constituents and the state in making North Carolina the best possible place for the people of North Carolina to live. Larry is a proponent of strong family values and having a sense of community commitment. Having been reared at a time when Black families maintained greater cohesiveness and solidarity, which some might call an "old fashioned" upbringing. Representative Womble has been recognized with numerous Honors and awards such as "Man of the Year" (WS-Chronicle), the NAACP Award, the Professional Business League Outstanding Award and the North Carolina Black Social Workers State Human Services Award.
